July 14 - 18 Parties

Our Peacock Gap Country Club party on Friday, July 14 started out well. But we had a big problem. The police set up a Sobriety Checkpoint on the road to the Country Club. So everyone was paranoid about a DUI. So they didn't drink. And they left early. It's a shame, because this is a wonderful location. This is the first time in 28 years of singles parties (over 2,000) that I have run that the party has been ruined by the police. Not that I favor drinking and driving...

On Saturday, July 15, we sponsored two parties. 1. The Asian/Non-Asian Speed Dating party in Burlingame had a terrific crowd. Sorry that we had to turn away anyone who wasn't prepaid. Just too many people showed up. 2. Our Bastille Day Celebration in San Rafael was a good party... eventually. Very slow the first two hours, then everyone showed up at the same time and the dance floor was packed.

Great wine tasting party on Sunday afternoon at Bargetto's Winery in Soquel (Santa Cruz area). Big crowd. Perfect weather. Lovely location overlooking the Soquel River. Wish every party could be like this one!

Tuesday, July 18, we did a Singles Mixer for the first time at the Pleasanton Hotel. Nice turnout for a Tuesday night. I was afraid that people wouldn't leave the house because of the 104 degree heat that day in Pleasanton, but they came anyway. Fortunately we had air conditioning!

Speaking of air conditioning, all of our parties have A/C. On Friday, July 21 we co-sponsor the first ever Baby Boomers Bash with Singles Supper Club, at the Sheraton San Jose. Baby Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964. For those of you born later, we have a Generation X Party (also co-sponsored with SSC) on Tuesday, July 25, at Fanny & Alexander's in Palo Alto. If it is a warm night like last time at F&A, we'll have a great party on their outdoor patio! Please note that adults of all ages are welcome at any of our parties, but these two parties are targeting specific age groups.

Our Saturday Night Singles Party on July 22 is 50s Night, featuring the great hits of the 1950s (Elvis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Rick Nelson, etc.) Our DJ will also spin some of your favorite hits from other eras as well, including today's hottest hits, at Embassy Suites San Rafael.

DON'T LET THE HEAT SPOIL YOUR FUN! Hope you can join us.

June 21-July 9 parties, plus Singles Tour of Europe

I can only report second-hand on our parties from June 21-July 9, because I was escorting a large group of friendly singles on a tour of five countries: Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, and Slovakia. It was a marvelous trip! We spent 7 days on a very comfortable cruise along the Danube River, plus 3 nights at the lovely Renaissance Hotel in Prague. The food and entertainment were excellent, and the tours were outstanding. We have lots of affordable trips coming up. For more info, visit www.SinglesTravelCompany.com.

While I was gone, Barbara Millin of Singles Supper Club ran our Silicon Valley Singles Convention at the newly renovated Sofitel Hotel in Redwood Shores. Lisa Altalida, our keynote speaker, was well-received, and I'm told there was a fun dance following. Patrick Dalal of WineSocials.com ran our Lock & Key & Dance in San Francisco on June 30, and our Wine Tasting & Dance in Mt View on July 7. Both were well-attended and a lot of fun. Dr. Janet Hecht ran our Saturday Night Singles dances at the Embassy Suites San Rafael, which went well, other than the air-conditioning going out for an hour on a hot summer night. Hopefully they will fix that A/C system once and for all!

We co-sponsored an Asian/Non-Asian Dance with Your Asian Connection on July 8 at the Sheraton San Jose. Julia tells me it was well-attended and an excellent dance. I would like to have been there, but my plane arrived late from Europe (after midnight). That was the only bad thing about the Singles Tour of Europe--two hours of delays at JFK Airport in NYC, both coming and going.

The next night, I ran the Saturday Night Singles Party, which went well, except for a below-normal turnout. On Sunday, July 10, I ran our first-ever party in Jack London Square in Oakland. We were at a very nice restaurant, right on the water--Jack's Bistro at the Waterfront Plaza Hotel. The crowd enjoyed the Mixer Game--even the bartenders got involved and were flirting so much there was a long wait for drinks!

Next weekend we have four parties:
  • Lock & Key & Dance at the Peacock Gap Country Club in San Rafael on Friday, July 14. We had such a big crowd last time, we decided to repeat at this lovely upscale location!
  • Asian/Non-Asian Speed Dating at Blush Nightclub in Burlingame on Saturday, July 15. We are again co-sponsoring with Your Asian Connection. Adults of all ages and all races welcome.
  • Bastille Day Celebration, Saturday, July 15, at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael. $10 at the door (only $5 if you are French!). I am of French ancestry myself (my dad was born in France). Now you know the derivation of the name Gosse!
  • Wine Tasting Party on Sunday, July 16, at Bargetto's Winery in Soquel (Santa Cruz County), with a lovely view of the Soquel River.

Hope to see you at the parties!
