Parties, Sept 21-24

We lucked out with the weather at our Waterfront Networking Party for Single Professionals & Business Owners on Thursday, Sept 21. The weather was gorgeous, so we had great views of the East Bay hills and SF Bay. Everyone appeared to mingle well and have fun. We definitely have to do another party at Sinbad's!

On Saturday night we sponsored two parties. Our Saturday Night Singles Party celebrated National Singles Week. Our new DJ Mel played a great assortment of music, and even taught a little line dancing. Lots of fun. Also on Saturday night we co-sponsored Asian/Non-Asian Speed Dating & Dance Party at Blush Nightclub in Burlingame. Julia of Your Asian Connection tells me it was well-attended and enjoyed by all.

We concluded the weekend on Sunday with the East Bay's first-ever Younger Man/Older Woman Party, at Jack's Bistro at Jack London Square. The San Francisco Chronicle sent a reporter to cover the event, so hopefully you'll be reading about all the fun!

This coming weekend we have four more parties from which to choose. I will be at three of the four parties (I have two parties on Saturday Night, so I'll have to miss one of them!) We start the weekend early on Thursday, Sept 28 with our annual Petaluma Singles Mixer, 7-9pm. This year's party is at the very popular Graziano's Ristorante, in their private upstairs banquet room. This is a very large room, so please spread the word to all of your single friends, so we can fill it! Only $10 at the door includes our fun Mixer, plus appetizers first hour.

On Friday night we co-sponsor an Art & Wine Tasting Party with WineSingles.com at Artists Alley, 345 Gough St. at Fell, San Francisco 94102. We'll have 15-20 wines for you to taste, from boutique wineries (you won't find these at Trader Joe's or Safeway!) My suggestion is that you have only a tiny taste of each wine, then go back to the best one(s). So many of our singles make the mistake of drinking too much of the first few wines, and then miss out on the others. What a tragedy! We'll have appetizers to cleanse the palate, of course.

We conclude the weekend Saturday night with two parties, North Bay and South Bay. Our South Bay Party, at Monte Carlo Nightclub in downtown Mt View, features two parties for the price of one: 8-10pm, DJ Richie Rich plays the greatest hits of all time; 10-Midnight, DJ Carlito plays the top Latin & Salsa hits. Also, at Saturday Night Singles, DJ Julian will play today's hottest hits and the greatest songs of yesteryear, 8pm-12, at Embassy Suites Hotel San Rafael ($10 at the door).

Sorry, no party on Sunday this time. I will be dining with friends on the Bay, near Angel Island.

Hope to see you at the parties!

September 12-16 Parties

Our Astrological Matchmaking Party (Tuesday, 9/12) had a moderate turnout. Everyone was enthusiastic about our three professional astrologers (Randall Curtis, Irene Blinston, and Susan Strong), who gave free astrological consultations. And the food was great, as always, at Fanny & Alexander's Restaurant in Palo Alto.

Big turnout at the Art & Wine Tasting Party at Sonya Paz Fine Art Gallery in Santa Clara (Friday, 9/15). Unfortunately, not enough men came to balance the ratio. I have sent out a special email to the single men on my database to be sure to come (and bring their buddies) to our four upcoming Wine Tasting Parties in San Francisco (9/29), Sausalito (10/14), San Francisco (11/4), and Sonoma (11/12).

Our first-ever Karaoke & Dance Party in Marin (Saturday, 9/16) was well-attended and lots of fun. There was a wide range of talent, from very good to very poor, and it was all entertaining! When the DJ started the Dance Party, the dance floor filled up immediately. People enjoyed the Karaoke, but they were ready to dance! We will definitely do the Karaoke again at a future Saturday Night Singles party at Embassy Suites San Rafael.

National Singles Week (September 17-23) is the only week of the year honoring America's 84 million single adults. Our Society of Single Professionals is the proud sponsor of National Singles Week nationally, which is officially recognized in Chase's Directory of such events, and officially proclaimed by governors of many states, including California. We have four events for National Singles Week:
  • My Art of Flirting Seminar, Sunday, 9/17, 7:30-9:30pm, at Santa Rosa Jr. College, Emeritus 1614.
  • Networking Party for Single Professionals & Business Owners, Thursday, September 21, 6-8pm, at Sinbad's Restaurant, Pier 2 along the Embarcadero, San Francisco 94111.
  • Asian/Non-Asian Speed Dating, Saturday, September 23, 7:30-10pm, Blush Nightclub, 261 California Dr., Burlingame 94010.
  • National Singles Week Celebration, Saturday, September 23, 8pm-Midnight, Embassy Suites San Rafael.

We also have a Younger Man/Older Woman Party on Sunday, September 24, 7-9pm, at Jack's Bistro at Waterfront Plaza Hotel at Jack London Square, 1 Broadway, Oakland 94607. This party is for enlightened singles who reject antiquated sterotypes about age and dating!

Hope to see you at the parties!

Parties, Sept 7-9

Another four parties this past weekend, each totally different in focus and location. We started out on Thursday, Sept 7 at the largest salsa club in Northern California, Cafe Cocomo in SF. Our 75 singles kicked off the night early, with our Singles Mixer. Then Cafe Cocomo's large Thursday night crowd slowly came in. We joined them for a fun Salsa lesson, on a huge wooden dance floor. Then an 8-piece Live Band and DJ made for an exciting evening. Unfortunately the appetizers came out late (during the dance lesson) and some of our singles missed most of the food because they were really into the lesson.

The next night we held our annual Black & White Summer Ball (although the chilly night was reminiscent of our Winter Ball) at David's Restaurant in Santa Clara. What a terrific turnout! The ladies were all decked-out, and the gentlemen were nicely dressed as well. DJ Mike spun his usual lineup of terrific dance hits, and the dance floor was packed all night.

On Saturday we sponsored two dance parties. Julia Ma of Your Asian Connection ran the party at the Sheraton in Milpitas, while I ran our weekly Saturday Night Singles party at the Embassy Suites San Rafael, which featured a Saturday Night Hustle Dance Lesson. Big crowd and spirited dancing!

Next week's lineup of parties kicks off early, Tuesday night, Sept 12, 7-9pm, with an Astrological Matchmaking Party at Fanny & Alexander's in Palo Alto. We will let you know everyone at the party with whom you are romantically compatible and, more importantly, whom to avoid! Our professional astrologers, Randall Curtis, Irene Blinston, Ph.D., and Susan Strong will provide free mini-consultations (time-permitting, first-come, first serve) and there will be appetizers first hour. We will enjoy the large outdoor patio (weather-permitting, with heat lamps). Otherwise we will party indoors.

On Friday, Sept 15, 7:30-9:30pm, we hold an Art & Wine Tasting Party for the first time at Sonya Paz Fine Art Gallery in Santa Clara. We will be able to sample 15-20 wines from boutique wineries and enjoy appetizers to cleanse the palate, and meet singles who appreciate fine art and fine wine.

For the first time in the four years of doing parties at the Embassy Suites San Rafael, we will have Karaoke. You can join the area's top karaoke singles at the microphone (if you dare) or just sit back and be entertained. Dancing will be encouraged while they sing, 8-10pm, or you can wait for our DJ to play your favorite hits, 10pm-Midnight. Our Saturday Night Singles parties are always fun, and such a deal. $10 includes hot appetizers at 8pm, plus partying at a lovely hotel.

The week concludes with my popular Art of Flirting Seminar, Sunday, Sept 17, 7:30-9:30pm, at Santa Rosa Jr. College.

Parties, Labor Day Weekend

People think that a 3 day weekend is a bad time to throw singles parties, because everyone is out of town. Not true! Most people stay home any weekend of the year, and they are especially eager to party on a 3 day weekend! This Labor Day Weekend was no different.

We started the weekend off with a bang at our Art & Wine Tasting & Dance Party on Friday, Sept 1, at Linen Life Art Gallery in Emeryville. As was the case with our first party there, we had a great crowd. People thoroughly enjoyed the venue and the wine. Last time the dance floor was packed until almost midnight, but this time the party burnt out early. Don't know why. The feedback I got was that people were tired after working hard all week, then tasted a lot of boutique wines (which makes you sleepy), then danced, then went home.

We have two more Art & Wine Tasting Parties this month, Friday, Sept 15 at Sonya Paz Fine Art Gallery in Santa Clara; and Friday, Sept 29 at Artists Alley in San Francisco. Please note that these are Art & Wine Tasting Parties only, no dancing. We have plenty of dance parties this month, if you love dancing. Visit www.ThePartyHotline.com for a complete list of parties.

Saturday night's party in San Rafael was smaller than usual, but I don't think it was because everyone was out of town. It's just that there were so many other fun things to do that night in Marin County! Lots of stiff competition, especially the live band (with no cover) at Larkspur Landing. Plus, we didn't have a special theme, which always draws lots of extra people. Next Saturday, Sept 9, we have our annual Saturday Night Fever Party, with a free Saturday Night Hustle lesson early on, followed by dancing to all kinds of music, including songs from the movie. We hope to attract another big crowd for this special theme.

Also this coming Saturday we co-sponsor an Asian/Non-Asian Speed Dating/Karaoke/Dance with Your Asian Connection. With the speed dating, you have your choice of being in the Asian to Asian section or the Asian to Non-Asian section. Some Asian women specifically want to meet a Caucasian man, and others prefer meeting an Asian man. This party caters to both and is open to all races and all ages. Big location in the Vallco Shopping Mall in Cupertino. More details at http://www.yourasianconnection.com/events/calendar.php.

Our Holiday parties concluded Sunday night at a new location for us: The Vinyl Room in Burlingame. Some complained that the place was too small, but frankly, at a singles party you need intimacy. I have done lots of parties in large venues that didn't go well, because people were intimidated by the size of the room. The Vinyl Room was the perfect size for the crowd (110 people) and it was a great party because of that.

Next weekend kicks off early on Thursday, Sept 7, at Northern California's largest salsa club, Cafe Cocomo. We have our own private room for our Singles Mixer at 7pm, with appetizers; followed by free salsa dance lesson; followed by a Salsa Dance Party with an 8-piece Live Band plus DJ. All for only $10! Such a deal.

Our most elegant event of the Summer follows on Friday, Sept 8. Our annual Black & White Summer Ball again is being held at the lovely and large David's Restaurant on the Santa Clara Golf Course. Dress in your finest for this classy soiree. I will wear my tux, of course. Guys always ask if they need to wear a tux. The answer is yes, if you own a tux. But there is no need to go out and rent one. Not required. Just wear your best. The ladies will most definitely be all decked out, and they appreciate it when a man goes to the trouble of looking good. This will be very large, high-energy party, co-sponsored with Singles Supper Club.

Hope you can join us for one or more of our four parties this coming weekend. More details about these and many more parties at www.ThePartyHotline.com.
