Singles Parties, July 24-28, 2007

We began the week with two Advanced Degrees Parties, for singles with a Doctorate or Master's Degree, in Sausalito and San Ramon. The Sausalito party, on Tuesday, July 24, was very crowded and went well. The San Ramon party was not so lucky. There was a fire in the Caldecott Tunnel, so our singles coming from the west could not attend. Worse than the small attendance was the bad ratio: many more women than men.

Singles always call asking what the size of the party will be and what the ratio will be. Unfortunately, not being psychic, I have no good answer. We never know. The last time we did a party at Mudds in San Ramon we had a huge crowd. This time it was much smaller. Sometimes our parties get too many women, sometimes too many men. You just have to take your chances in life. The important thing to remember is that regardless of the number attending or the ratio, there are always lots of single people at our parties looking to meet new friends!

A general rule of thumb is that the big turnouts happen on weekends, while the weeknight events are more intimate. Of course common sense dictates that more people will attend if they don't have to get up the next morning to go to work.

Our two weekend parties this week were both held in large hotel ballrooms. Susan Bradley, author of How to Be Irresistible to the Opposite Sex, wowed the crowd as usual with her entertaining presentation at the Solano Singles Convention on Friday night. On Saturday night we celebrated our 29th Anniversary of parties for singles. I estimate we have sponsored over 2,000 singles parties on six continents! Co-sponsoring the party was Singles Supper Club, which celebrated its 24th Anniversary. The party was very slow getting started, but eventually the dance floor was packed and the party went well at the lovely Parc 55 Hotel Ballroom.

This coming weekend features two parties. Our first-ever Wine Tasting Party at Sports Basement in SF is on Friday, August 3. In addition to all the wines you can taste from boutique wineries, accompanied by appetizers, everyone will receive a free Cozmo Deck of 52 cards of discounts to San Francisco's finest restaurants (over $500 in discounts). Plus Sports Basement will have a special discount for our singles, if you want to buy sports apparel during the party.

On Saturday, August 4 we hold our annual East Bay Singles Convention. Krystyna Barron keynotes the evening with "Sex Is NOT a Dirty Word," followed by a Dance Party featuring your favorite hits.

Singles Parties, July 19-22, 2007

All four of our events went well this past weekend, beginning with our Singles Mixer & Live Band Dance Party on Thursday, July 19 at Number One Broadway in Los Gatos. The RB Express was terrific and the dance floor was packed.

On Friday we had our annual Santa Cruz Singles Convention at Seascape Golf Club in Aptos. Author Francesca Gentille taught us all about "Flirting...Italian Style." It was quite a dance party after her keynote address, no doubt in part due to her inspiring message. DJ HickeyB! of Choice Music once again spun his magic, keeping the dance floor full all night.

Our Lock & Key & Dance Party on Saturday night at Adobe Creek Golf Club was also a lot of fun. DJ Darryl K played all of our favorite songs and kept the party lively all night.

We concluded the weekend with a Young Single Professionals event on Sunday morning at Picchetti Winery and Mid-Peninsula Open Space in Cupertino. Barbara Millin of Singles Supper Club hosted the event for us, which began with a wonderful hike, followed by wine tasting at Picchetti, and concluding with a picnic. What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday! Barbara reports that 35 young singles attended and all had a great time.

This coming week we have four more parties for you to enjoy. Two of them are Advanced Degrees parties, both held at lovely upscale restaurants: Tuesday night, July 24, at Horizons in Sausalito; and Thursday night, July 26, at Mudds in San Ramon. If you enjoy intelligent, well-educated singles, these parties are a must!

On Friday we have our annual Solano Singles Convention at the newly opened Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Fairfield. Susan Bradley, author of How to Be Irresistible to the Opposite Sex, will give another inspiring talk for us, followed by a Dance Party with DJ Darryl K. We also have a generous assortment of hot and cold hors d'oeuvres, served at 7:30pm, as long as they last.

The week concludes with our 29th Anniversary Party, at Parc 55 Hotel Ballroom in San Francisco. We started throwing singles parties back in 1979 and have grown to become the world's largest non-profit singles organization! The party also celebrates the 24th Anniversary of Singles Supper Club, the Bay Area's premiere dining club for singles. Should be a huge crowd!

Singles Parties, June 28 - July 14, 2007

June 28, Young Single Professionals Mixer, Park Chalet Restaurant, San Francisco. Smaller crowd than usual, because we didn't have a live band this time (just a guitarist), but a fun party regardless. Great food.

June 29, Wine Tasting Party, Alberto's Night Club, Mt View. Big crowd, and just about everyone stayed after the wine tasting was over to enjoy the Samba Lesson and Brazilian Dance Party with live band.

June 30, Art & Wine Tasting Party, The Artists Alley, San Francisco. Nice party, lots of new people.

July 3, Independence Eve Party, Faz Restaurant, Danville. Who would expected such a massive crowd on a Tuesday night? Fortunately it was a warm summer night, so we were able to spill over to the outside patio. Otherwise we would have had to turn away a lot of people.

July 7, Summer Night Delight, San Mateo Marriott. I took a week off to visit the Oregon Coast for the first time. Lovely. While I was gone, Jim Spillane (of Treasure fame) ran the party. Jim says it was a terrific turnout! I got a few complaints about the DJ, who had never done one of our parties before and apparently didn't play all of the great hits from the past that our singles expect.

July 13, Lucky Friday the 13th Party for Young Single Professionals, Lion & Compass Restaurant, Sunnyvale. We co-sponsored with Singles Supper Club. Barbara Millin ran the party and reports that it was a big crowd.

July 14, Contra Costa Singles Dance, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Concord. We had a massive crowd, thanks to our co-sponsor, Beachcombers Singles, and the promotion of Susan Platt and our DJ, Dan Hurd, of Now Playing DJ Service.

We have four events this coming weekend:

  • Singles Mixer & Dance, Thursday, July 19, 7:30pm, Number One Broadway, Los Gatos. Live Music by The RB Express, which primarily plays Rhythm & Blues and Motown hits.
  • Santa Cruz Singles Convention, Friday, July 20, 7:30pm-Midnight, Seascape Golf Club, Aptos. Author Francesca Gentille learned while visiting Italy that the best flirts are the Italians. She claims that Americans are among the worst, because they take flirting too seriously. Tonight she reveals how to have fun flirting... Italian style. Dance Party follows in this huge facility (please tell all of your friends so we can pack it!)
  • North Bay Lock & Key & Dance, Saturday, July 21, 7-11pm, Adobe Creek Golf Club, Petaluma. Once a year we do a party in Petaluma, this time at a great new location with a very large banquet room. Popular DJ Darryl K will spin your favorite current hits and oldies.
  • Young Single Professionals Hike/Wine Tasting/Picnic, Sunday, July 22, 9:30am, Picchetti Winery & Mid-Peninsula Open Space, 13100 Montebello Rd., Cupertino. We are co-sponsoring with Singles Supper Club. Barbara Millin has created an exciting morning full of fun.
