Singles Parties, November 20-24, 2007

Our first-ever party at Izzy's, on November 20, was just too crowded. We chose a Tuesday night, traditionally one of the slow nights, hoping the place would be virtually empty. Unfortunately for us (but great for Izzy's), the bar was packed from previous customers. Eventually they left and we were able to pretty much take the place over, but it was a very tight squeeze. Ditto for the parking lot. Book Passages next door was jammed with customers for a book reading, so most of the parking spaces were taken. Many of our singles who arrived late found the large parking lot to be completely full and had to park at the DMV lot further down the street, on a cold night. Sorry about that.

We also had a good turnout for our Thanksgiving Holiday Dance at the Concord Hilton on Friday night. DJ Slick (Vic Moredo) spun the tunes for us for the very first time. He did a very nice job and we will be hiring him again.

Speaking of hiring him again, the very next night (Saturday) there was mixup with our scheduled DJ. I had told him the party was on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which he thought was December 1st, so he was vacationing up in Lake Tahoe. I wound up calling DJ Slick at the last minute and he not only called back immediately, but was willing to make the long trek to Palo Alto that night for our Young Single Professionals Dance. Good turnout. Thanks, Vic, for saving the day (or night!)

Next weekend's 3 parties start early on Thursday night, Nov 28, with a Mid-Life Singles Holiday Party at one of our favorite restaurants--Park Chalet Garden Restaurant in SF. We define Mid-Life Singles as 50+; whereas our Young Single Professionals Dance (see above) was targeted at late 20s to early 40s. Our other parties, unless otherwise noted, are for adults of all ages. As always with our Mid-Life Singles parties, Mason Grigsby, co-author of Love at Second Sight: Playing the Mid-Life Dating Game, will be our Guest of Honor. The venue is not conducive for a speech, but Mason will be happy to answer all of your questions about dating at mid-life. Get a Love Life, providing dating coaching for Mid-Life Singles, is co-sponsoring this party, so they will also be available to answer your questions. Plus we have Live Music with The Courtney Janes. We have quite an evening in store for you!

On Friday, Nov 30, we have our first Wine Tasting Party of the holiday season at a new location for us, Etiquette Lounge, which is on Market St. at 7th St. in SF, next to the famous Orpheum Theatre. If you enjoy celebrating the holidays with new single friends who appreciate fine wine, note that we will do two other Holiday Wine Tasting parties, at Blend Night Club in Danville on Dec 14; and our annual Christmas Art & Wine Tasting Party at California Modern Art Gallery in SF on Dec 22.

Next weekend concludes with the big one on Saturday, Dec 1, at the Clarion Hotel at SFO in Millbrae. Over 400 attended our last party at this gorgeous hotel ballroom!

Singles Parties, November 15-17, 2007

Big contrast between our two parties this week. Our annual Sadie Hawkins Day Party on Thursday, Nov 15 had a light turnout, but people had fun and stayed late. Our semi-annual Golden Gate Yacht Club Party, on the other hand, had a massive turnout. DJ HickeyB of Choice Music spun his usual magic and the dance floor was packed, after everyone finished their delicious luau buffet dinner.

We have three parties coming up next week. Our Pre-Holidays Mixer will be on Tuesday, Nov 20, at a new location for us--Izzy's Restaurant in Corte Madera. This is a lovely upscale restaurant, whose bartenders are well-know and appreciated by many of the singles of Marin County.

We have two Thanksgiving Weekend parties. On Friday, Nov 23 we co-sponsoring a big dance party with Beachcombers Singles at the Concord Hilton. On Saturday, Nov 24 we are co-sponsoring a Dinner Dance for Young Single Professionals with Singles Supper Club. at Bay Cafe at Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course. We only do the YSP parties once a month, but will do them more frequently as we build up that age group in our database.

Singles Parties, November 9-11, 2007

The rain hit this past weekend, and I was sure worried. A lot of people don't like to be out at night on slick roads. Our annual Singles Extravaganza is our signature event. We have to get a giant turnout or lose a lot of face. I needn't have worried! Our singles braved the elements and the ballroom was packed on Saturday night, November 10. Dr. Susan Campbell was our keynote speaker, discussing her book "Truth in Dating." DJ HickeyB! did a terrific job of keeping the energy going, with just the right mix of fast and slow, old and new hits. It's tough being a DJ at one of our parties, with singles in their 20s demanding one type of music; and baby boomers and older asking for the great retro hits.

The previous night, Friday, November 9, we held our annual North Bay Singles Convention. Yours truly gave a talk, just for the women, on "How to Pick Up Men." Daniel Johnson, of Pickup101, was in the next ballroom teaching the men "How to Pick Up Women." At 9pm we opened up the air wall separating the two halves of the ballroom and had a dance party, plus the North Bay's first-ever Pickup Artist Championship. Congratulations to Atty Ott, who won the title of "Ms. North Bay Pickup Artist Champion," and Mike Sessi, who won the title of Mr. North Bay Pickup Artist Champion. You should have seen both of them in action! Everyone appeared to have a great time at the party!

We concluded the weekend on Sunday afternoon with a fun Wine Tasting Party at Kastania Vineyards in Petaluma. Excellent turnout! We got lucky, as the sun came out for a glorious afternoon in the Sonoma Wine Country.

Next week we have 3 fun parties scheduled. Sadie Hawkins Day comes every November 15, which this year falls on a Thursday. We will celebrate at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Vallejo.

On Friday we combine two fun activities in one party, with a Shopping & Wine Tasting Party at Sports Basement in Sunnyvale. We conclude the week on Saturday night with a Dance by the Bay with Luau Buffet at our most popular party venue, the Golden Gate Yacht Club in San Francisco!

Singles Parties, November 2-3, 2007

Only 2 parties this weekend. On Friday, Nov 2 we had another fun Lock & Key & Dance Party at Summitpointe Golf & Country Club. Good crowd.

On Saturday, Nov 3 we christened the new Sports Basement store in Walnut Creek with their first-ever singles party. Everyone who attended got a 20% discount on every item in the store, plus we had lots of great wines to taste and appetizers to cleanse the palate. Another good crowd, as with our past Wine Tasting parties at the 2 Sports Basement locations in San Francisco. Our next Sports Basement party will be on Friday, November 16 at their fourth location, in Sunnyvale. If you haven't been to one of these parties, they are lots of fun, combining two favorite activities: tasting boutique wines and shopping!

Next weekend we have two huge blockbuster events. Our annual North Bay Singles Convention will be on Friday, Nov 9, at the Flamingo Resort Hotel in Santa Rosa. This is always the largest singles party in the North Bay. This year's convention features speakers on "How to Meet Men" (just for women) and "How to Meet Women" (just for men). They are in different halves of the same ballroom. After the entertaining speakers, we open up the air wall for a fun Dance Party!

An even larger event is on Saturday, Nov 10. Our annual Singles Extravaganza is at the Clarion Hotel at SFO in Millbrae. Last year's extravaganza attracted 400 singles! This event is co-sponsored by 21 different singles organizations in the Bay Area, who will be on hand to answer any of your questions about "The Bay Area Singles Scene." Author Susan Campbell, Ph.D., will discuss Truth in Dating, followed by a giant Dance Party.
