Singles Parties, May 20-24, 2008

The week began slowly with our West Contra Costa Singles Mixer on Tuesday, May 20 at La Strada Restaurant. Small group, although our singles interacted well and enjoyed the delicious appetizers. In these difficult economic times, especially with the high cost of gas, we are bringing the parties close to you. We thought the singles of West Contra Costa would appreciate this party scheduled for their convenience, but they just didn't show up in large numbers. Nevertheless, we will continue our policy of creating singles parties throughout the nine Bay Area counties, plus Santa Cruz and Monterey.

Our annual Silicon Valley Singles Convention, Friday, May 23, at the Wyndham San Jose, attracted a good crowd, and the party went well.

Likewise for our first-ever Singles Charity Ball in the East Bay, Saturday, May 24, at The Midtown Ballroom. We were concerned that we wouldn't get a good crowd because of the bad publicity Oakland often receives, but we actually drew an excellent turnout! I think our singles enjoyed donating to such a worthwhile cause. 100% of the money goes directly to The Seva Foundation's Sight Program. We raised $4,100 at this party, which will enable Seva to restore sight to approximately 82 blind people (at an average cost of $50 per eye surgery). If you did not get a chance to attend this party, please consider sending in your tax-deductible donation to The Seva Foundation, 1786 Fifth St., Berkeley CA 94710. A special thank you to our many sponsors of The Singles Charity Ball!

Next week features four parties:
  • Mid-Life Singles Mixer, Tuesday May 27, at Captain Blythers in Benicia
  • Free Financial Freedom for Singles Seminar & Social, Tuesday, May 27, at Bay Cafe at Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course
  • Wine Tasting & Shopping Party, Friday, May 30, at Sports Basement at Potrero Hill in San Francisco
  • Baby Boomers Bash, Saturday, May 31, at the Concord Hilton

Singles Parties, May 13-17, 2008

3 very different singles events this past week:
  • Our second annual Single Pet Lovers Mixer was on Tuesday, May 13, at Faz Restaurant in Danville. It was fun learning about everyone's pets. I brought a photo of my two cats, Zuki (a Maine Coon male) and Sake (a Siamese female). A couple of people called to ask if they could bring their pets to the party! Sorry, it's against the Health Code to have animals at a restaurant (unless they are guide dogs for the blind).
  • We returned to Milpitas after a long hiatus on Friday, May 16, for a Lock & Key & Dance at the Beverly Heritage Hotel. Big crowd, great party. DJ Miguel of Startracks spun his usual magic and the dance floor was packed all night.
  • We concluded the weekend on Saturday afternoon, May 17, with the Dress Rehearsal of the Mountain Play Production of Wizard of Oz. The performance benefited The Marin Symphony. We had our own singles section, under a giant tree. That was fortunate, because it was really HOT! Other than that, we enjoyed this classic musical. The actress playing the lead role of Dorothy had a terrific voice. The only problem was that the poor dog Toto didn't respond a few times to his cues! Hopefully Toto will turn in an academy award winning performance at the real performances coming up!

Next week features another three parties:

  • West Contra Costa Singles Mixer, Tuesday, May 20, at La Strada Restaurant in San Pablo. All of our Contra Costa parties for the past few years have been in the eastern part of the county. It's about time that we did one in the western part, close to the cities of Richmond, San Pablo, El Sobrante, Hercules, and Pinole. Our philosophy is to bring parties close to virtually every town in the San Francisco Bay Area. With today's high gas prices, it's important to be accessible!
  • Silicon Valley Singles Convention, Friday, May 23, at the Wyndham Hotel in San Jose. This is our largest annual event in the Silicon Valley. This year features an exciting keynote by Susan Bradley, author of How to Be Irresistible to the Opposite Sex and Irresistible Prescriptions for Love.
  • East Bay's first-ever Singles Charity Ball, Saturday, May 24, at The Midtown Ballroom in safe downtown Oakland. Our last charity ball, March 1st, in San Francisco, raised over $11,000 to help The Seva Foundation cure blind people. We hope to cure 200 more blind people tonight!

People sometimes worry that attendance will be low on a holiday weekend (Memorial Day) because everyone goes out of town. FALSE. The majority of singles stay home on three-day weekends, and they are EAGER to go out and have fun! We usually have larger crowds on the holiday weekends than on regular weekends.

Singles Parties, May 8-9, 2008

Only two parties this past weekend:
  • Our first-ever Young Single Professionals Party north of the Golden Gate Bridge was on Thursday, May 8, at Gaylord's in Sausalito. Small attendance, but people had fun and interacted well. We often get big crowds at our monthly YSP parties elsewhere in the Bay Area, but apparently don't have enough in the North Bay to do them up there regularly. We will try again sometime n the future.
  • Our Lock & Key & Dance on Friday, May 9, at Graziano's in Petaluma, was a fun party, thanks to the great music of DJ Mike Keating of Grand Slam Mobile DJ. We were pleased to meet some of the members of SwingnSingles, the new club for singles for enjoy golf.

This coming week we have three parties:

  • Single Pet Lovers Mixer, Tuesday, May 13, Faz Restaurant in Danville. We did our first-ever Single Pet Lovers party last year in Sausalito and had a lot of fun, so we are moving it to the East Bay. Singles on the Peninsula/South Bay have also requested one, so we hope to do so later this year.
  • Lock & Key & Dance, Friday, May 16, Beverly Heritage Hotel in Milpitas. We haven't done a party in Milpitas in a long time, so here it is! Always well-attended because it is so convenient for both East Bay and Silicon Valley singles (just off Hwy 880 at Montague and only four miles from Hwy 101).
  • Singles Day at the Mountain Play, Saturday, May 17. You can't go wrong at the most spectacular outdoor theatre in California! This is a dress rehearsal performance benefitting the Marin Symphony. We have our own singles section and will be enjoying The Wizard of Oz.

Singles Parties, May 2-4, 2008

3 parties this past weekend,, all well-attended:
  • Dance by the Bay with Luau Buffet, May 2, was at the ever-popular Golden Gate Yacht Club in SF. Chilly night, but other than that, it was a great party. When will Spring really arrive?
  • Art & Wine Tasting Party, May 3, was at a new location, Swarm Studios at Jack London Square. Very nice venue, hope to do it again!
  • Advanced Degrees Party, May 4, was at Kincaid's in Burlingame. People had fun meeting new friends who are well-educated and learning about their professional backgrounds. Only negative was that the appetizers ran out quickly. Some restaurants are generous with the appetizers and some are not. That's why we say "complimentary appetizers for those who arrive on time." You are always welcome to come fashionably late to our parties, but you may not get fed!

Only two parties this coming week:

  • Our first-ever Young Single Professionals Party in the North Bay, Thursday, May 8, at Gaylord's in Sausalito. This is for singles late 20s to early 40s. We ask that our singles respect this age limit, as our younger singles prefer to interact with people their own age. We have almost 150 parties a year for adults of all ages; just once a month we do a Young Single Professionals party.
  • Lock & Key & Dance, Friday, May 9, at Graziano's Ristorante. This is for all ages. The combination of the fun Mixer and Dance Party is always a winner!
