Singles Parties, August 18-26, 2008

4 fun parties during the past 9 days:

  • Baby Boomers Bash, Monday, Aug 18, at the Flamingo Resort Hotel in Santa Rosa. Moderate-sized crowd, but we had a good time! Next Baby Boomers Bash is on Sunday, Aug 31, at Severino's at The Seacliff Inn, Aptos (Santa Cruz Area).
  • Advanced Degrees Mixer, Tuesday, Aug 19, at Gaylord's in Sausalito. Great location for a party, with lots of new faces. Unfortunately the parking lot filled up quickly, so many of the latecomers had to park a bit of a distance.
  • Wine Tasting & Dance, Saturday, Aug 23, at Alberto's Night Club in Mtn View. Debby and I were attending a wedding in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, so I missed this one. Patrick Dalal and Jim Spillane, who ran the party, say it went well.
  • Walnut Creek Marriott Mixer, Tuesday, Aug 26. Another big crowd, just like last year! Everyone loves this beautiful hotel, with the spectacular atrium lounge where we held the party. The only complaint was that the delicious appetizers ran out quickly. It pays to arrive on time at these parties!

We ALWAYS do well on three day holiday weekends. Most people stay home (you've heard of the "staycation") and are looking for something fun to do on a Labor Day Weekend. We have three great parties scheduled:

  • Single Mingle, Thursday, Aug 28, at Trader Vic's in Emeryville. The experts are predicting spectacular weather for tonight, ideal for a party at the wonderful tiki bar on the deck of this luxurious bayside restaurant!
  • Hot August Night Dance, Friday, Aug 29, at Lion and Compass in Sunnyvale. I guess we named this dance right! Should be a balmy night for dancing. Optional Progressive Dinner available at additional cost.
  • Baby Boomers Bash, Saturday, Aug 31, at Severino's at The Seacliff Inn, Aptos (Santa Cruz area). Only $10 for a Dance Party with a top DJ, plus appetizers, in a lovely resort-like setting. Such a deal! If you want to stay overnight, we have a special rate, just for our singles, of only $99. Expect a big crowd, because Monday is a holiday!

Singles Parties, August 11-16, 2008

3 very successful parties this past week!
  • MidLife Singles Mixer, Monday, August 11, at Faz in Pleasanton. I never realized how good a night Monday is for a singles party! We had a big crowd last month on a Monday night in Walnut Creek, and this one in Pleasanton was also well-attended. People had a lot of fun and particularly enjoyed the fact that it was a warm (but not overly warm) night on the outdoor patio of this lovely restaurant. The food was also terrific.
  • Young Single Professionals Mixer & Dance, Friday, August 15, at the Blue Chalk Cafe in Palo Alto. Barbara Millin of Singles Supper Club ran this party for us and reports an excellent crowd, who all enjoyed this fun venue.
  • Lock & Key & Dance, Saturday, August 16, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Burlingame. This was the big one! The dance floor was packed, thanks to the excellent tunes spun by DJ Miguel of Startracks.

Next week features three more parties:

  • Baby Boomers Bash, Monday, August 18, at the Flamingo Resort Hotel in Santa Rosa. We continue our recent successful trend of Monday night parties with our first ever party for Baby Boomers in the North Bay. Baby Boomer Bashes in the Silicon Valley and Contra Costa have been very well-attended, and we hope that this one will also.
  • Advanced Degrees Mixer, Tuesday, August 19, at Gaylord's in Sausalito. Here's your chance to meet well-educated singles in a wonderful waterfront venue.
  • Wine Tasting & Dance Party, Saturday, August 23, at Alberto's in Mountain View. Always a good crowd at this fun night club. This time we are bringing our own DJ, Jim Spillane, to play the greatest hits of the past earlier in the evening, before the House DJ takes over and plays mainly Latin hits.

Singles Parties, August 8-9, 2008

Two very successful parties this past weekend:
  • Lock & Key & Dance, Friday, Aug 8, at Spengers in Berkeley. We were worried about attendance, because we had strong competition from three major events: Opening Night Celebration at the Olympics; Giants-Dodgers Game; and 49ers-Raiders Game. We need not have worried. Big crowd, which enjoyed the large wooden dance floor and great music from DJ Slick.
  • Party on the Bay, Saturday, Aug 9, at The Sherman in Burlingame. The Peninsula's only floating restaurant was the perfect venue for a large turnout!

We have three parties this coming week:

  • Mid-Life Singles Mixer, Monday, Aug 11, at Faz at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Pleasanton. This is our first party at the Pleasanton Faz (we have had several at the Danville Faz). Weather permitting, we will be able to socialize on the lovely outdoor patio of this upscale restaurant. Otherwise, we will party indoors. Annie Gleason of Get a Love Life is the guest of honor. She will answer all of your personal questions about Mid-Life dating.
  • Young Single Professionals Mixer & Dance, Friday, Aug 15, at Blue Chalk Cafe in Palo Alto. This is also our first-time party at this fun venue, which features music, appetizers, Mixer Game, and billiards. Co-sponsored with Singles Supper Club.
  • Lock & Key & Dance, Saturday, Aug 16, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Burlingame. Last week's Lock & Key in Berkeley was so successful (see above) that we hope for another large crowd this week! We haven't done a party at the Crowne Plaza in many years, so we are excited about this return engagement.

Singles Parties, July 31 - August 1st

2 packed parties this past week! You could barely move at our 3rd Annual Barbary Coast Beer Tasting Party on Thursday night, July 31, at the SF Brewing Company. Always a full house at this party, which featured great beer and appetizers.

Our annual Contra Costa Singles Convention on Saturday night, August 1, at the Concord Hilton, also attracted a large crowd. We segregated the sexes, with author Susan Bradley educating the men on how to meet women in one half of the ballroom; while I entertained the women with tips on how to meet men. At 9pm we opened up the sound wall that divided the ballroom for a giant Dance Party. DJ Slick spun his usual magic and the large dance floor was filled to capacity almost immediately!

Congratulations to Joey Yull and Geri Dokter, who won the Pick Up Artist Championship for the Bay Area at the convention, with prizes. They were an inspiration to everyone, dancing to virtually every song, and chatting with so many people all night long.

Next weekend features two more fun parties:
  • Lock & Key & Dance, Friday, August 8, at Spengers in Berkeley. Everyone loves this venue, with the large wooden dance floor.
  • Party on the Bay, Saturday, August 9, aboard The Sherman in Burlingame. This is the SF Peninsula's only on-water restaurant!
