Singles Parties, April 22 - 24, 2010

We covered a large territory this past week, with 4 parties, stretching from Sacramento to Los Gatos:
  • Cougar Mixer & Live Band Dance, Thursday, April 22, at Number One Broadway in Los Gatos. Moderate-sized crowd, fun live band (Generation Wrecks).
  • Match Your Key Dance, Friday, April 23, at The Claremont in Berkeley. Huge crowd, as always, when we do a party at the East Bay's most famous hotel. Next Match Your Key Dance is on May 22 at the Pleasanton Marriott.
  • Young Single Professionals Mixer & Dance, Friday, April 23, at Zen Lounge in Mountain View. Barbara Millin of Singles Supper Club, who hosted the event (we co-sponsored), reports a moderate-sized turnout.
  • Sacramento Cougar Convention, Saturday, April 24, at Marilyn's on K. Congratulations to Antoinette Ramirez, of Stockton, CA, for winning the title of Miss Cougar Sacramento and a free berth on The International Cougar Cruise. We had heavy media coverage, including three major TV stations (Fox, ABC, and NBC affiliates) and two radio stations (KFBK and KHYL). Next Cougar Convention will be in Monterey on May 8.
Next week features 3 more parties:
  • Advanced Degrees Mixer, Wednesday, April 28, at Petar's Restaurant in Lafayette. Meet new friends who hold a Doctorate or Master's Degree!
  • Blue Jean Ball, Friday, April 30, at the San Mateo Marriott. I always wear a suit and tie at our parties at nice hotels like The Marriott, so it's a fun change of pace to wear comfortable jeans!
  • Art & Wine Tasting Party, Saturday, May 1, at Art People Gallery at The Crocker Galleria in San Francisco. If you haven't been to this lovely art gallery near Union Square, tonight's the night!

Singles Parties, April 14-17, 2010

3 fun parties last week, all well-attended.
  • Sonoma Wine Country Mixer, Wednesday, April 14, at The Ledson Hotel in Dowtown Sonoma. What a gorgeous venue! The place was packed, the food was plentiful, many of our singles won free prizes for the Mixer Game, and the Live Music was terrific.
  • Tropical Nights Dance, Friday, April 16, at Lion & Compass in Sunnyvale. New DJ Randy Lira kept the dance floor full all night with a mix of today's hottest hits and the classic hits of the past, interspersed with a couple of dance lessons and a multiple partner dance set. Many of us shared a delicious progressive dinner before the music started.
  • 32nd Anniversary Dance, Saturday, April 17, at Embassy Suites Hotel in San Rafael. We've come a long way since we started our parties in a San Rafael Church in 1978. Thanks to all who came to celebrate our anniversary. DJ Darryl K did another great job with his music and videos and the energy was high!
Next week features four singles parties:
  • Cougar Mixer & Live Band Dance, Thursday, April 22, at Number One Broadway Nightclub in Los Gatos. This party has it all: a fun Mixer Game with prizes; appetizers; dancing to the live music of Generation Wrecks. More info about cougars and cougar parties at www.cougarevents.com.
  • Match Your Key Dance, Friday, April 23, at the East Bay's most elegant hotel, The Claremont in Berkeley.
  • Sacramento Cougar Convention, Saturday, April 24, at Marilyn's on K Nightclub in Downtown Sacramento. We will be crowning Miss Cougar Sacramento, who will win a free berth on the Cougar Cruise! The Professionals Guild is co-sponsoring this party with us.

Singles Parties, April 6 - 10, 2010

3 parties this past week:
  • Sausalito Single Mingle, Tuesday, April 6, at The Spinnaker. We got lucky again, with a clear evening so we could view the spectacular San Francisco Skyline, Golden Gate Bridge, and the Bay! Nice turnout, great appetizers.
  • Spring Fling, Friday, April 9, at the W Hotel in Newark. The evening began very slowly. About a dozen people who came early didn't come in, were disappointed that there weren't a lot of people yet. All good things come to those who wait... It would up being a good turnout, very nice party, with the dance party full once the party got rolling. Very nice venue for a party, with the party room comfortable for both those dancing and those watching on the comfortable sofas. Plus we had the very large "Living Room" adjacent to the bar, which was a great place for quiet intimate conversation.
  • Wine Tasting Party, Saturday, April 10, at Mary's Futons in San Rafael. A change of pace for us, as our wine tasting parties are usually in art galleries. It turned out to be a fun space for socializing and tasting some excellent wines! Next wine tasting party will be on May Day, Saturday May 1, at Art People Gallery in San Francisco.
Next week features 3 more parties:
  • Sonoma Wine Country Mixer, Wednesday, April 14, at the beautiful Ledson Hotel in downtown Sonoma. Free appetizers, but the wines are extra...
  • Tropical Nights Dance, Friday, April 16, at Lion & Compass in Sunnyvale. You have the option of meeting everyone before the dancing starts with a Progressive Dinner, at additional cost.
  • 32nd Anniversary Dance, Saturday, April 17, at Grille 101 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in San Rafael. Yes, it's been 32 years of great singles parties worldwide, on six continents. Come celebrate with us!

Singles Parties, March 26 - April 3, 2010

5 singles parties over the past two weeks:
  • Young Single Professionals Mixer, Friday, March 26, at Lion and Compass in Sunnyvale. Barbara Millin of Singles Supper Club, who co-sponsored with us, reports a nice turnout and lots of new faces.
  • Wine Tasting Dance Party, Saturday, March 27, at Fuz Restaurant in Lafayette. Good turnout. Unfortunately some of the songs DJ Slick played skipped a bit because the dance floor didn't absorb the shock of so many spirited dancers! We'll try to solve this problem next time.
  • Free Singles Travel Mixer, Sunday, March 28, at Bay Cafe at Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course. Ann Thomas of The Singles Travel Company co-sponsored with us and reports many singles attended who are eager to travel! The Great Recession has kept most people home, but Ann believes singles are now ready to break out.
  • Comedy & Dance Extravaganza, Friday, April 2, at the Clarion Hotel SFO in Millbrae. Lynn Ruth Miller, the world's oldest cougar, and Debbi Campo were hilarious as they discussed the trials and tribulations of dating! DJ Mike played his usual blend of great hits of the past and a few modern tunes.
  • Young at Heart Singles Mixer, Saturday, April 3, at Maharani Restaurant in SF. Small turnout, but we all had a great time!
Next week features 3 more parties:
  • Sausalito Single Mingle, Tuesday, April 6, at The Spinnaker in Sausalito. Always a big crowd at this restaurant along the water, with a spectacular view of San Francisco and the Bay!
  • Spring Fling, Friday, April 9, at The W Hotel in Newark. Our first dance in the upscale hotel, with a large cozy "Living Room/Lounge" for those who want quiet conversation; and a large banquet room with dance floor for those who want to groove with the greatest hits of all time.
  • Wine Tasting Party, Saturday, April 10, at Mary's Futons in San Rafael. Those of us who reside in Marin know Mary well from all of the TV commercials over the years. Come meet Mary in person and enjoy her spacious showroom, which is a wonderful venue for tasting great wines and meeting new single friends.
