Singles Parties, September 27-29, 2007

3 parties this past weekend, all widely contrasting. Surprisingly large turnout for our Mid-Life Singles Mixer on Thursday night, Sept 27, in Palo Alto. Guess there are lot of you singles out there, 50+! Mason Grigsby, author of Love at SECOND Sight: Playing the Mid-Life Dating Game, gave a great talk, which was very well-received. Mason reminds me of myself, as I am also not politically correct and "tell it like it is." Mason said some things that normally would cause women in the audience to cringe. But everything he said was sincere, and laced with humor, so no one complained. What a terrific performance! If you missed this one, we are doing another Mid-Life Singles Mixer, again featuring Mason, on Tuesday, October 23, at The Orinda House.

The next night we went to the opposite end of the age spectrum with a Young Single Professionals Party in San Jose. I did not attend this one, but Barbara Millin of Singles Supper Club and Ann Thomas of Singles Travel Company report to me that the venue was too large for our singles (the promoter was expecting 800 people later that night). We had the place to ourselves from 7-9pm for our singles Mixer, for only $10; then it opened to the public at 9pm with a cover charge of $20. So it was a terrific deal for our singles, who got our party plus the later party for just $10. Barbara thought the music was too loud, but nobody complained about the volume, so maybe that's what young single professionals want at a party...

The Grand Finale was the Bay Area's first ever Singles Dance Championship on Saturday night at Stars Ballroom in Novato. Many excellent dancers attended and it was a fun party. Congratulations to Teresa Murphy, who won the championship! Teresa is also the co-owner of Get a Love Life, which provides dating coaching and advice for single men over 50. Get a Love Life will be co-sponsoring our Mid-Life Singles Mixer on October 23. Yvonne Benavides and her husband Jason of Stars Ballroom gave a fun West Coast Swing Dance Lesson prior to the Dance Party and Contest. Thanks to Yvonne and Jason!

We have another 3 parties for you this coming week, beginning on Tuesday night, Oct 2, with a Wine Tasting Party at Pleasant Hill Wine Merchants, featuring the wines of Hannah Nicole Vineyards. On Friday night we have our Black & White Ball for Single Professionals at David's Restaurant at the Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club. On Saturday night we have our Lock & Key & Dance Party at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Concord. 300 singles attended our last party there, and we are hoping for another great crowd.
