Singles Parties, May 24-26, 2007

Our four parties over Memorial Day Weekend were wildly contrasting. We started the weekend early on Thursday, May 24 with two parties: one huge and and one tiny. The huge party was the Carnaval Party we co-sponsored with the SF Bay Guardian at Medjool Restaurant in San Francisco. A thousand people attended. It's not hard to attract a crowd when admission is free, the food is free, and there is live music! The same night we co-sponsored a Young Single Professionals party at Fahrenheit Ultra Lounge, which was our smallest YSP party ever. The only thing we can figure out is that maybe people just don't want to go to downtown San Jose (our first party there).

Friday night we had a great party at the Parc 55 Hotel in San Francisco. We concluded the weekend with our Saturday night party at a new location for us, the Crowne Plaza in Milpitas. My scheduled DJ for the night called in sick with the flu Saturday afternoon, so I had to scramble for a last minute DJ over a holiday weekend. And you thought YOUR job was stressful. I wound up hiring a new DJ who came in all the way from Stockton! He did a great job, and I will definitely hire him again. The party was packed. The only complaint was that the Krystall Ballroom was too small. I explained that the big ballroom at the hotel was already taken (with a Graduation Party), so this was the best I could do on a popular Saturday night (hard to get ballrooms on Saturday nights because of weddings, etc.)

Next weekend kicks off early again on a Thursday night with a Singles Mixer/Karaoke/Dance Party at the Flamingo Resort Hotel in Santa Rosa. On Friday night we kickoff the month of June with a Wine Tasting & Dance Party at Mr Smiths Night Club in San Francisco. Then we conclude the weekend with a Wine Tasting Party in the gorgeous Valley of the Moon in Kenwood (near Sonoma), featuring the wines of five small boutique wineries. Singles Parties, May 16-20, 2007

We produced 5 singles parties this past week, all remarkably different.

The first, Forum Vinum on May 16, was highly unusual for us--on a Wednesday afternoon. I guess that's why there was such a small turnout--our singles all must work for a living! It's a shame they couldn't take time off from their jobs--we had great wines from 80 French wineries to taste (including $90 bottles of cognac). Lots of fun.

Our first ever party at the new Willie Mays Sky Box Lounge (formerly Kimball's) was on Thursday night. Beautiful nightclub. "Pure Ecstasy," the Live Band, definitely deserved their name! The 4 singers (accompanied by live band) sang all the oldies we love. Our singles were very enthusiastic with their applause, and were dancing up a storm on the giant wooden dance floor. Next time we do a party there I will feature the live entertainment so everyone will know to come, despite it being a Thursday night. I just didn't know "Pure Ecstasy" was that good, so I didn't play them up.

On Friday night we had our annual Carnival Party, at the gorgeous Illusions Night Club in Palo Alto. The lighting was spectacular. Everyone loved the Mas Makers Massive Dancers, in their lovely costumes. DJ Miguel did another great job of spinning the right tunes to keep the dance floor full all night. We also had an optional dinner earlier in the evening. The food was delicious!

On Saturday afternoon, for the very first time, we sponsored Singles Day at the Mountain Play, featuring the dress rehearsal for "Hair," the hippie rock musical that got so may headlines 40 years ago. No nudity in this performance, at the Cushing outdoor amphitheatre on Mt Tam in Mill Valley, but quite a spectacle nevertheless. The performance was a fundraiser for the Marin Symphony. We're glad they asked us to bring our singles!

We concluded the week Sunday night with a free party at Jack's Bistro at Jack London Square. Tom Pattinson, the Singles Retirement Guru, gave an eye-opening seminar. Bob Steiner, Magician Extraordinaire, entertained everyone with his magic. There were also complimentary hors d'oeuvres. If you didn't get a chance to catch Tom's talk, he is happy to give you free retirement advice over the phone at 415/883-1426.

Another busy itinerary of four parties this coming weekend, beginning with our first-ever party at the famous Fahrenheit Ultra Lounge in San Jose on Thursday, May 24. We have the private, luxurious upstairs lounge, just for our Young Single Professionals (late 20s to early 40s), with our fun Mixer Game, complimentary hors d'oeuvres first hour, and Dance Party.

The same night we are co-sponsoring the San Francisco Bay Guardian's Singles Carnaval Party on the rooftop at Medjool Night Club, 2522 Mission St., near the 24th St. BART Station in San Francisco This is a FREE party, with music and food. SFBG is predicting 400 will attend. Be sure to place your free personal ad at www.sfbgconnections.com.

Friday night features An Elegant Evening at the Parc 55. Dress in your finest for this elegant soiree! Conveniently located near the Market/Powell St. BART Station in San Francisco.

The Grand Finale is a Lock & Key and Dance on Saturday night at another new location, Crowne Plaza in Milpitas. Conveniently located at the junction of Hwy 880 and Hwy 237.

Singles Parties, May 10-12, 2007

Only two parties this weekend. Our Spring Fling on Thursday, May 10, was the best one we have had at Park Chalet! People filled the dance floor within minutes after The Shi-Tones started playing. The food was great and plentiful. Smaller crowd than last time, but our singles made up for it with their level of enthusiasm!

Our first-ever Art & Wine Tasting Party in San Rafael was another fun event. Our singles were very complimentary about the quality of the wines served. Artworks Downtown is a lovely venue for a party. I hope they invite us back!

May 30 is the deadline for the $100 discount for the Singles Tour of the Greek Isles and Istanbul, which Debby and I are escorting. Hope you can join us.

Singles Parties, May 3-6, 2007

We had a full weekend of events, beginning early on Thursday, May 3, with a Singles Mixer & Live Band Dance at Number One Broadway in Los Gatos. As always, nice turnout at this location. The party was co-sponsored by www.Ccube.com. If you haven't signed up (membership is free), they are the only social networking/dating website that introduces you to new friends via the phone rather than email.

On Saturday night we competed against the Cinco de Mayo theme with our own Geeks & Gals Ball. Great turnout at the San Mateo Marriott!

From Friday through Sunday our group took over the Greenhorn Ranch in Quincy (north of Truckee) for the weekend. My wife Debby, who escorted the Wild West Singles Weekend, tells me they all had a blast!

Next weekend features two parties. Again we start early on a Thursday, May 10 with our Spring Fling at the Park Chalet Garden Restaurant at the end of Golden Gate Park, across the street from Ocean Beach in San Francisco. Always a good turnout at this location, beginning with our fun Mixer Game and then dancing to the live music of The Shi-Tones.

On Saturday night we have an Art & Wine Tasting Party at a new location for us, Artworks Downtown. Should be an excellent turnout!
