Parties, March 29-30, 2007

For the first time in a very long time, we did not have a dance party on this weekend. Instead, two fun Mixers. On Thursday, March 29, we sponsored our annual Novato Singles Mixer, at the lovely Hilltop Cafe. Excellent food, of course, and a nice turnout for a Thursday night!

On Friday night we did our first-ever Lock & Key in Fremont, at Massimo's Restaurant. Local singles from Fremont were most appreciative that we were doing parties in their neighborhood, and asked us to do more. We will be delighted to repeat, as we had a very nice turnout. Our singles really appreciated the generosity of Massimo's, who put out quite a spread with the Light Dinner Buffet.

Next weekend we return to our Dance Party format, with a twist. On Friday, April 6 we sponsor the Tri-Valley Singles Convention, our largest event of the year in the area. Jeannine Kaiser, "America's Dating Coach," will give an entertaining Keynote Address, followed by dancing to the great music of DJ Miguel of Startracks.

We conclude next weekend with a Silicon Valley Lock & Key & Dance at Los Gatos Lodge. The party was packed last December, when we did our last Lock & Key in Los Gatos, despite the heavy rain. Hopefully the weather will be more amiable this time, and we'll attract an even larger crowd!

Singles Charity Ball & other events, March 21-24, 2007

The Singles Charity Ball on Saturday, March 24, was a tremendous success. We exceeded our ambitious goal of $10,000 for the Seva Foundation, for their sight program. We wound up raising over $11,000, which translates into curing over 200 blind people, at an average cost of only $50 per cataract surgery! All of us worked for free, including DJ HickeyB! of Choice Music, and the organizers of the leading singles organizations of the Bay Area.

It was a huge, enthusiastic crowd, and they partied hardy until midnight. Thank you to all of you who generously supported this great cause. If you were unable to attend, but would still like to help, please send in your donation to Seva by visiting their website at

We produced three other singles events this past week. We started off on Wednesday, March 21, with a Retirement Planning for Singles Seminar. Thank you to Tom Pattinson, "the singles retirement guru," who presented the free seminar. If you were unable to attend, Tom is available for a FREE phone consultation at 883-1426 (area code 415).

On Thursday we hosted a Singles Mixer at Rafter's Grille in San Rafael. Everyone enjoyed the Mixer Game, Pizza, and Live Music by Mas Cabeza. Alas, not as big of a crowd as last year's party at Rafter's.

On Friday, we held our monthly TGIF for Young Single Professionals, this time at Arthur's Restaurant in Santa Clara. Thank you to Barbara Millin of Singles Supper Club, who hosted the party.

Next weekend we only have two parties. Our annual Novato Singles Mixer, on Thursday, March 29, will again be at the Hilltop Cafe, with a lovely view. Our first-ever Fremont Lock & Key Mixer will be at Massimo's Restaurant on Friday, March 30. Only $10/advance (or $15/door) includes a Light Dinner Buffet! More details at

Parties, March 13-17, 2007

We began the week with a Welcome Spring Party at The Spinnaker in Sausalito on March 13. We lucked out with the weather again, with a very nice view of the SF Skyline and the Bay. The Spinnaker must be our good luck charm. Always a great crowd, always a clear evening. Hopefully that will continue.

We concluded the week with a St Patrick's Day Party at Pasta Pelican Restaurant in Alameda. As always the food was terrific, as was the view of the water and Jack London Square. DJ HickeyB! worked his usual magic with the music and the party went well. Not as many people attended as our last party at Pasta Pelican, however. Maybe people preferred to go out to a local bar with no cover charge to celebrate St. Paddy's Day?

This weekend we have three parties, beginning early on Thursday, March 22 with a Singles Mixer & Live Band Dance at Rafter's in Downtown San Rafael. Mas Cabeza, a Latin Jazz Band, will be performing. We will have appetizers and our fun Mixer Game as well.

On Friday we have our monthly Young Single Professionals Mixer. Last month over 150 singles attended the party at The Cellar in SF. This month's YSP party returns to the Silicon Valley, to Arthur's Restaurant in Santa Clara. $10 at the door includes a Mixer Game, plus appetizers first hour.

The Grand Finale is our Singles Charity Ball on Saturday, March 24, at the world-famous Westin St Francis Hotel on Union Square in SF. I produce 150 singles parties a year, but I am most proud of this one--100% of the donations at the door will go directly to The Seva Foundation in Berkeley to cure blindness. We are hoping to raise $10,000 tonight, which will cure 200 blind people (at an average cost of $50 per cataract surgery in the poor countries of the world). If you cannot attend, please donate anyway at

Singles Parties, March 6-9, 2007

Our first-ever party in Antioch, Tuesday, March 6, was fun, with lots of new singles from the Pittsburg/Antioch/Oakley area, and lots of food. Not too many came from elsewhere, however. I guess they just couldn't bear to fight the heavy traffic congestion going east on Hwy 4 on an early Tuesday evening. We will do another singles party out there again, as there obviously is a need for one, but next time we will do it at a time when there is likely to be less traffic. Hopefully more folks will drive out from other areas and make for a much larger party. Charleen Earley of The Brentwood Press covered the event. We look forward to reading her feature story!

Our first-ever Wine Tasting Party with a Live Band Dance, on Thursday, March 8, had a huge turnout! It was in Los Gatos and I had a long drive home back to San Rafael, so I didn't stay for the live band, The Joint Chiefs. They were terrific the last time we had them, hope they were again for us. If you attended the party, please report on how it went, especially whether or not you enjoyed the band.

We concluded the weekend with our annual Bay Area Flirting Convention on Friday, March 9, at the San Mateo Marriott. Our first Flirting Convention was in 1994 and Oprah devoted an entire show to it! This time, 13 years later, we still got heavy media attention. The San Francisco Examiner did a great story for us last Monday at KRON 4 TV and NBC 11 both interviewed our Keynote Speaker, Susan Bradley, as did KGO Radio. I was interviewed by KLIV radio. The night of the convention, KGO TV came down to cover the event, as did The Oakland Tribune at The Burlingame Daily News did a nice story about us at

Susan Bradley delivered a most entertaining Keynote Address on The Art of Flirting, with audience partipation. It was a lot of fun. Then we had the Bay Area Flirting Contest. Congratulations to our two champions, Jeff Malone of San Francisco and Suzon Fleming of the Peninsula! Very crowded, very nice party, excellent music by DJ HickeyB! of Choice Music. Mahesh Lalwani of spoke briefly at the microphone and invited everyone to join his new website, featuring free social networking over the phone. More details at

If you attended the convention, or our other parties this week, or just have a comment or question about singles parties in general, please add your comments!

Next week we only have two parties: Welcome Spring Party in Sausalito on Tuesday; and our St Patrick's Day Party on Saturday, at Pasta Pelican Restaurant in Alameda. Both are waterfront parties, with terrific views. More details at Hope to see you at the parties!

Singles Parties, March 1-3, 2007

Virtually everyone who arrived the first half hour at our Asian/Non-Asian Mixer on Thursday, March 1st was a man! I admit I started to panic, but the women came later, so it turned out to be a very good party. Julia Ma of YourAsianConnection co-sponsored with us and led a fun Mixer Game. The Shitones performed live dance music. The food, as always at Park Chalet in SF, was terrific. The ratio was about half Asian, half non-Asian.

On Saturday we did our first-ever Men in Black Party at a new location for us, Tarragon Restaurant in Downtown Sunnyvale. We had the entire upstairs, which was spacious, with a large wooden dance floor. We packed it! Just about all the men came in black, with a few of us wearing dark sunglasses (tough to see anything with shades on!) Tarragon is a lovely location--hope we can schedule another party there soon.

We have 3 fun parties scheduled for this coming week, beginning with our first-ever Singles Mixer on the Delta on Tuesday, March 6, at Humphrey's Restaurant in Antioch. A lot of our singles come to our parties from East Contra Costa County, so we decided it was time we took the party to them!

We've done many Wine Tasting parties, but on Thursday, March 8 we are sponsoring our first ever combination Wine Tasting/Live Band Dance. The first two hours, 7-9pm, we have all the wines you can taste, from boutique wineries, accompanied by appetizers. Then The Joint Chiefs Band will entertain us with their great dance music. Our last party at Number One Broadway in Los Gatos attracted 250 singles, so we are hoping for another big crowd!

The week concludes with our annual Bay Area Flirting Convention on Friday at the San Mateo Marriott. Our keynote speaker, Susan Bradley, was interviewed on KRON Channel 4 this past Saturday, and also was featured in the SF Examiner. Hope you come early so you can hear her speak (she is most entertaining) and then enjoy the contest for the flirting championship of the Bay Area, followed by a giant dance party in the upstairs ballroom of the Marriott.
