Parties, August 21-24, 2007

Both of our weeknight singles mixers this past week were in new locations. On Tuesday night, August 20, we were at Pazzo Restaurant in Petaluma. Large, lovely venue. On Second Saturdays they have a Dance Party featuring 70s and 80s music. Open to the public. Check it out.

On Thursday night our party was at J T Labeaus Restaurant in Martinez. Prior to the mixer Debby and I dined on the Chicken Picata, which was delicious.

The Grand Finale was our first-ever party at Summit Pointe Golf & Country Club in the Milpitas hills. Big crowd and great music by DJ Miguel of Startracks, who will also be spinning the tunes at our next two dance parties.

Next week features three more parties:
  • Young Single Professionals Mixer & Salsa Party (late 20s to early 40s), with 8-piece Live Salsa Band, free salsa dance lesson, fun Mixer Game, and appetizers first hour, at Cafe Cocomo, the Bay Area's largest and most popular salsa night club.
  • Baby Boomers Bash (for singles born 1946 to 1964) at the lovely waterfront restaurant, Michael's at Shoreline Park in Mt View
  • Contra Costa Singles Convention, our largest party of the year in the County, Saturday night, at the Walnut Creek Marriott's Ballroom, which can accommodate 500 singles!

Singles Parties, August 16-17, 2007

Only two parties this past week, beginning with a Wine Tasting Party at Fahrenheit Ultra Lounge in Downtown San Jose on Thursday night, August 16. Fun party and venue, but a bear to get to--it took me 20 minutes to drive the last mile to Fahrenheit, due to the free Concert in the Park nearby. Lots of new faces at the party, and our singles really enjoyed the great wines and appetizers.

Our first-ever Battle of the Sexes Party, on Friday at The San Mateo Marriott, attracted a big crowd! For the first time in 29 years and over 2,000 singles parties, we segregated the sexes into separate ballrooms, with Carlos Xuma revealing how to pick up men; and Lance Mason instructing the men on how to pick up women. Then we opened up the sound wall that separated the two ballrooms for a great dance party and Pick Up Artist Championship. Congratulations to Calvin Baker of Santa Rosa, who won the title of Mr. Bay Area Pick Up Artist; and to Lisa Spector of Half Moon Bay, who won the title of Ms. Bay Area Pick Up Artist!

This coming week we have three parties scheduled, all in new locations for us:
  • Singles Mixer, Tuesday, Aug 21, 7-9pm, at Pazzo Restaurant in Petaluma.
  • Singles Mixer, Thursday, Aug 23, 7-9pm, at J T Labeaus Restaurant in Martinez
  • Lock & Key & Dance Party, Friday, Aug 24, 8pm-12, at Summitpointe Golf Club in Milpitas

The Singles Mixers during the week are intimate parties (50-100 singles) that make it EASY to meet new friends, especially since we have a fun Mixer Game breaking down the barriers. They only cost $10, and include appetizers the first hour.

Our weekend parties, such as Friday's party at the fancy country club in Milpitas, attract a much larger crowd. It's harder to meet people at these bigger parties, because a lot of people feel intimidated in a room full of strangers. That's why we have a Lock & Key Mixer preceding the Dance Party (women get locks; men get keys). The nice thing about the Lock & Key is that everyone, even the shyest person in the room, gets to meet every member of the opposite sex, since everyone wants to match their lock or key to yours and possibly win a prize!

Singles Parties, August 7-11, 2007

What a spectacular night we had at The Singles Charity Ball, Saturday, August 11! We raised $6,535 at The Ball, which will enable The Seva Foundation to restore sight to appx. 132 blind people (at an average cost of $50 per cataract surgery). If you were unable to attend The Ball, please donate directly to Seva.

Thank you to all of you who made The Ball such a success: Great Expectations, Singles Supper Club, Singles Travel Company, Singles Podcasting Network, BayAreaSingles.com, Your Asian Connection, InfoBayArea.com, Wine Socials, LockandKeyMatch.com, XY Social Club, Quiz Dates!, Bay Area Single Parents Meetup Group, Group Mingle for Professional Singles, The Meeting Game, Sierra Singles (Loma Prieta Chapter), Sierra Singles (Bay Area Chapter), Exploring Spiritual Partnerships, Spiritually Connected Singles, etc., plus our Media Sponsor, The Palo Alto Daily News. And a special thank you to Illusions Night Club for providing us with such a lovely venue.

Last Tuesday night we christened Blend, the new night club in Danville. We had a great turnout. Very nice venue. Alas, not one of our better dance parties--hard to get people on the dance floor on a Tuesday night! That's why we usually do our dance parties on Friday and Saturday nights, when everyone is ready to party.

Last Thursday we did our annual Barbary Coast Beer Tasting Party at historic SF Brewing Co. Big crowd and great food again, as with last year's party. A lot of new, attractive faces.

This coming week we have two large parties scheduled: Wine Tasting & Dance Party at the luxurious Fahrenheit Ultra Lounge in Downtown San Jose; and The Battle of the Sexes at the San Mateo Marriott. We have the Marriott's huge upstairs ballroom and hope to fill it! With two great speakers on how to meet the opposite sex, plus an exciting contest for the Bay Area Pickup Championship , plus a giant dance party, how can we miss?

Singles Parties, August 3-4, 2007

Two widely contrasting singles parties this weekend. On Friday, August 3, we christened the new Sports Basement store in San Francisco with a Wine Tasting Party. What a massive store! We usually do our Wine Tasting parties in art galleries, wineries, or night clubs, so this was definitely a change of pace for us. Nice turnout and people enjoyed tasting the wines, particulary the Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Sorry, can't remember the name of the winery, so many other wines were there as well to sample!

On Saturday night Krystyna Barron was our Keynote Speaker at the East Bay Singles Convention at Spengers. Her topic was "Sex Is NOT a Dirty Word." Two women walked out int the middle of her talk, presumably because they were uncomfortable with the subject matter. I thought Krystyna did a great job discussing a touchy subject before a mixed gender crowd. Everyone else appeared to enjoy the keynote, and the dance party afterwards went very well. Apparently a hot topic leads to a hot party!

Next week features three more widely contrasting parties. On Tuesday, August 7 we will be hosting a Singles Dance Party at the newly opened Blend Night Club in Danville. The DJ will play your favorite dance hits.

On Thursday we host a Barbary Coast Singles Party at the last standing bar from San Francisco's rough-and-tumble Barbary Coast days. The party features tasting four great beers plus appetizers in an historic brewery, SF Brewing Company.

The week concludes with the Singles Charity Ball in a giant, upscale nightclub in Palo Alto, Illusions. We hope to pack this party, as 100% of the money goes directly to The Seva Foundation to cure blindness. Only $20 at the door (tax-deductible). Our Singles Charity Ball in SF last March attracted 500 singles and raised $11,410 to restore sight to approximately 228 blind people in Tibet, Cambodia, China, East Africa, etc. (at an average cost of $50 per cataract surgery). The DJ will play current hits and oldies with a great sound and lighting system!
