Singles Parties, September 25-27, 2008

Thanks to all of you who donated to The Seva Foundation at our Singles Charity Ball on Saturday, September 27 at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in San Rafael. 100% of your tax-deductible donations go towards Seva's Sight Program. We raised over $3,000, which will enable Seva to restore sight to approximately 60 blind people! It only costs $50 for an eye surgery in the poor countries of the world. If you were unable to attend the party, please consider donating online at www.seva.org.

Also this past weekend we had two other fun parties:
  • National Singles Week Celebration, Thursday, September 25, at Number One Broadway Night Club in Los Gatos. Nice turnout. The dance floor was packed, thanks to the great music of The Joint Chiefs!
  • Wine Tasting Party, Friday, September 26, at Cal Shakespeare Theater in Orinda. Not as large of a turnout as last time. I guess we should have waited longer to repeat the party at this wonderful outdoor venue. The weather was perfect, however, and our singles had a very nice time!

We begin October with 3 more parties:

  • Spectacular Waterfront Singles Mixer, Thursday, October 2, 7-9pm, at Hong Kong East Ocean Restaurant, 3199 Powell St, Emeryville. This is a very large restaurant, with a lovely view of the San Francisco Skyline and the Bay.
  • Young Single Professionals Party, Friday, October 3, 8pm, at The Cellar Night Club, 685 Sutter St., San Francisco. It's great to have two separate rooms, with DJs playing different styles of music (hits from the 80s in one room; hip hop in the other), giving our singles CHOICE.
  • Relationships Convention for Singles, Saturday, October 4, 7:30pm-12, at the Hilton Hotel Fremont/Newark, 39900 Balentine Dr, Newark. It has been many years since our last party in this large hotel ballroom. Our singles in the Fremont area have been asking for a party close by, so hear it is! Wendy Merrill, author of Falling into Manholes, gives a revealing talk, followed by a giant Dance Party!

Singles Parties, September 19-21, 2008

3 singles parties this past week:
  • Single Mingle, Tuesday, Sep 16, at Englund's Bistro in Concord. This was a new venue for us and was perfect for a smaller, intimate group.
  • End of Summer Ball, Friday, Sep 19, at David's Restaurant in Santa Clara. Normally we get a huge crowd here, but we were competing against two other singles parties that night, so it was not a large party. Party went well, however, at this lovely restaurant.
  • Waterfront Lock & Key Dance, Saturday, Sep 20, at Sinbad's Restaurant in San Francisco. Party went well, and we had lots of new singles attend from 30s-40s Singles Meetup, who co-sponsored with us.

National Singles Week begins today, Sep 21, and continues until Sep 28. We are the proud lead sponsor of National Singles Week throughout America, which has been officially declared by many governors, including the Governor of California. Our local National Singles Week Celebration will be on Thursday, Sep 25, at Number One Broadway Night Club in Los Gatos. Always a big crowd for this fun venue!

Next weekend features three more parties:

  • Wine Tasting Party, Friday, Sep 26, at Cal Shakespeare Theater in Orinda. This is an exclusive party, just for our singles, 6-8pm. Many of our singles will stay for the performance of Shakespeare's 12th Night. This is a lovely outdoor setting.
  • Singles Charity Ball, Saturday, Sep 27, at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in San Rafael. This is the first ever held in the North Bay. All of the proceeds go to The Seva Foundation to cure blindness!
  • Single in September Dinner Dance Bachelorette Bachelor Auction, Saturday, Sep 27, at Courtyard by Marriott in Fairfield. Chance2Romance is sponsoring this coming out party for their new dating website!

Singles Parties, September 9-13, 2008

3 singles events this past week:
  • MidLife Singles Mixer, Tuesday, Sep 9, at The Spinnaker in Sausalito. Great crowd, as always, whenever we do a party at this beautiful upscale restaurant, with such great views of SF and the Bay! We lucked out with the weather, as the fog was high up, leaving SF to be viewed in all of its glory.
  • Free Financial Planning Seminar & Social for Singles, Wednesday, Sep 10, at Trader Vic's in Emeryville. Another spectacular location and a good turnout (for a financial seminar). One of our regulars complained that the seminar presented by Timothy R. Yee of Cathedral Financial was too sales-oriented. I wasn't there (I just sponsored the event) so I can't argue that point, but what I will say is that Timothy donated his time and paid for the free appetizers, so we are grateful to him. Of course he is hoping to pick up clients. Why else would he be doing this for free? In today's difficult economy, with so many singles ill-prepared for their future retirement, we need knowledgeable speakers like Timothy to enlighten us!
  • Singles Extravaganza, Saturday, Sep 13, at The Clarion Hotel in Millbrae. Our yearly signature event lived up to its billing once again, with a humongous turnout! The dance floor was packed all night, following seminars by authors Jerusha Stewart and George Joyce, and representatives of the leading singles organizations in the Bay Area. Everyone loved this gorgeous ballroom, with high ceilings and spectacular chandeliers!

Next week features three more great parties:

  • SingleMingle, Tuesday, Sep 16, at Englund's Bistro in Concord. This is a new venue for us, suggested by one of our singles. Nice atmosphere for an intimate Tuesday night party. Only $10 at the door includes fun Mixer Game, with prizes, plus appetizers for those who arrive on time.
  • End of Summer Ball, Friday, Sep 19, at David's Restaurant in Santa Clara. We haven't done a party at this lovely restaurant in quite some time, so we are definitely overdue! I will wear my tux, of course. Most gentlemen don't own a tux, but you can certainly wear a nice suit, hopefully. The women love to dress up, so here's your chance to wear that lovely dress sitting in your closet for years, because it's too fancy for a normal event. This is a special event, so dress up for this one, PLEASE! In addition to the dance party, 8pm-12, there is a Progressive Dinner option (prepaid only, at additional cost) at 7pm, where the gentlemen change tables after each course and get to meet all of the ladies BEFORE the dancing begins!
  • Lock & Key Dance, Saturday, Sep 20, at Sinbad's in San Francisco. Our last Lock & Key at this marvelous waterfront restaurant was such a big success, we are repeating it!

Singles Parties, September 4-6, 2008

3 singles parties this past weekend:

  • Single Mingle on Thursday, Sep 4, at The Little Fox in Redwood City. What a fun cabaret! Not as large of a crowd as we expected (presumably a lot of our singles were watching John McCain's Acceptance Speech that night) but they had fun and stayed late.
  • International Wine Tasting & Dance Party on Friday, Sep 5, at Fiddler's Green in San Francisco. We narrowly averted disaster, as the gentleman who provided the wine was involved in a major accident and was in surgery the morning of our party. Thanks to Tino and staff for filling in and allowing us to proceed! The wines, from Germany, Italy, and the USA, were superb! The DJ did a nice job of playing our favorite hits.
  • Best of the Men Dance on Saturday, Sep 6, at the Pleasanton Marriott. Great turnout, fun crowd! Lots of new faces, thanks to The Pleasanton Weekly, who did a feature about this party.

3 more parties this coming week:

  • MidLife Singles Mixer, Tuesday, Sep 9, 7-9pm at The Spinnaker in Sausalito. It's been many moons since we've done a party at this wonderful waterfront restaurant, with spectacular views of The City and The Bay!
  • Free Singles Seminar & Social, Wednesday, Sep 10, 7-9pm, at Trader Vic's in Emeryville. Financial Planner Timothy R. Yee of Cathedral Financial speaks on "Luck Is NOT an Investment Strategy," plus complimentary appetizers at this luxurious restaurant, with Polynesian decor. Free admission!
  • Singles Extravaganza, Saturday, September 13, 7pm-12, at The Clarion Hotel at SFO in Millbrae. This is our largest annual gathering! 500 singles attended last year.
